Watch for Grandparent Scams

“Grandparent scams” are still popping up across Mississippi. The state’s attorney general’s office says that’s where a caller will pretend to be a family member in an emergency or distress. They’ll then ask for grandparents or the intended victim to send money through Western Union or to provide bank account routing numbers.

Boil-Water Notice

A boil-water alert has been issued for the Pope-Courtland Water Association-North affecting customers who receive their drinking water from their water supply located in Panola County. That’s about 90 customers from the railroad tracks to Main Street, Courtney Village and Herron Street. Health officials strongly recommend that all water be boiled before it is consumed.

Ex-Rebel Is MLB All-Star

A former basebal star at Ole Miss is headed to the Major League All-Star Game. Zack Cozart of the Cincinnati Reds has been picked as the starting shortstop for the National in next week’s game at Miami. Cozart is in the top ten in all of baseball in batting average.

MHP Holiday Enforcement Underway

The Mississippi Highway Patrol will continue its Fourth of July enforcement period through midnight tomorrow. State troopers are looking for impaired drivers, as well as people not wearing their seat belts. A new state law makes it illegal for anybody to ride without a seatbelt no matter what seat they’re in.
